Here are some signs to look for:

• Leaking Sink: The first and most obvious sign your sink should be replaced is if it has become leaky. When repeated patching has been done and the leak persists, or new leaks occur, there is little choice but to remove the old sink and install a new sink. Leaks if left unattended can damage cabinets, seep into wood flooring and warp boards, or cause mold to grow unseen underneath the sink area.

• Worn Enamel: Porcelain sinks that are decades old, or have a higher frequency of use, can have enamel worn away. Chemical cleaners and scrubbing with wire brushes cause the degradation of the veneer, resulting in ugly spots that can potentially leak. Once a porcelain sink has reached that point it must be replaced.

• Stains & Discoloration: Some porcelain sinks have stains that are so deeply embedded that no amount of cleaning can remove them. When a sink becomes severely discolored, most home and business owners choose to remove the unsightly mess and replace it.

• Stainless Steel Rust: When corrosive chemicals are used to clean a stainless steel sink, it causes rust that spreads like a malignancy. There is no choice but to replace the sink. Over time it will begin to leak, and can also pose a cut risk to hands placed in it.
